GUIDE / AUTODJ

What is AutoDJ—and what should it actually do?

AutoDJ is the cloud playout layer that keeps approved station programming moving when no presenter is live.

01

AutoDJ is more than shuffle.

A basic shuffle plays files in an arbitrary order. A useful AutoDJ works from deliberate playlists, respects station rules, keeps a recent-play history and gives operators visibility into what is coming next.

It should also distinguish songs from IDs, jingles, sweepers and prepared programmes so station imaging is not treated as ordinary music.

02

The media and playlist layer.

Operators upload lawful media, correct metadata and group tracks into playlists built for a purpose. Rotation size and separation matter: a tiny library will sound repetitive regardless of the automation engine.

Good preparation includes consistent loudness, useful titles and artists, artwork where appropriate, and a plan for unavailable or damaged audio.

03

The schedule layer.

The weekly schedule decides when specific playlists or programmes should take priority. AutoDJ covers the surrounding time instead of requiring a calendar event for every minute.

Preflight checks should identify schedule conflicts, missing media and programming gaps before publication.

04

The live handover.

A live presenter sends an external source to the station. The platform verifies that source and temporarily hands the public stream to it.

When the source disconnects, AutoDJ resumes. Listeners keep the same public URL, which is why fallback behaviour is as important as the initial connection.

05

What operators should monitor.

Watch programming depth, recent repetition, upcoming schedules, live-source state and actual listener delivery. Automation that cannot explain its state is difficult to trust.

SGNL exposes now, next and readiness information so operators can act before a silent or repetitive hour reaches listeners.

Clear answers.

Does AutoDJ choose any uploaded track?

It should play only from approved playlist sources and station rules, not from every file indiscriminately.

Can AutoDJ run without my computer?

Yes. A cloud AutoDJ runs independently of an operator's personal computer.

Can a presenter interrupt AutoDJ?

Yes. A verified external live source can take over, with AutoDJ returning after the source ends.
